Wideopen Ex-Player's International Success

Congratulations to Danny Barlow who played for Wideopen Juniors between 2013 and 2015 as an U15 and U16 and last season (2016/17) was selected for the ESFA England U18 team.

In April 2017 Danny played for England against Northern Ireland and the folowing quotes described part of his contribution to that game: "The visitors started well ... the usual menacing runs of Danny Barlow"; "Dan Barlow stepped up with the goal of the night. He picked up the ball in midfield and struck a rising shot into the top corner that drew England level"; "Dan Barlow was on hand to play a huge part in the equaliser when his hard and low cross into the box struck a defender and left the Irish keeper stranded to tie the score at 2-2".

During his time at Wideopen, the U15s team Danny played in won the Teeside Tournament and won the NEYD Cup Final beating Bedlington Terriers 1 - 0. As Under 16s, they played again in the NEYD final and beat Cramlington Juniors 2 - 1 after extra time.

In the Summer of 2017, Danny headed off for a scholarship at East Tennessee State University. Everyone at Wideopen FC wishes Danny 'All the Best' for his future. Follow Danny's progress in the USA.

WIdeopen Football Club (junior and senior teams) is a family club whose first interests are those of our members. The Managers, Coaches and Committee are a team off the pitch. Each age group is encouraged to work as a team on the pitch. Inevitably, the whole issue of football comes first and foremost and we aim to ensure that it is an enjoyable experience for the youngsters who represent Wideopen FC week in, week out, in all weathers. We continually strive for better standards in coaching qualifications, facilities, equipment, first aid / treatment of injuries, equality, disabilities, child protection issues and training, as well as further developing school and community links. We encourage fair play, sportsmanship and equity. We have the FA Charter Mark for Quality and have gained the much sought after Kitemark. Our stated aim is to increase the quality of provision for children and to continue to raise our standards in all aspects of football. At Wideopen we have always prided ourselves upon our standards in all aspects of the game. Coaching is an area in which we excel and we have qualified coaches at all levels. We also have several Referees. The facilities will be made available to all children and adults within our catchment area. WFC's website is a central source of information about the club.
